A defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese cars, while personnel have been told to refrain from discussing secret information in any cars.
Safety Guidance for MoD Staff
During a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to discuss secret material while travelling in China-made cars.
The minister said that the MoD is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that security is a concern in every modern cars.

But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that exist in every single vehicle, to only have those secret talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about security.
When it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”
