Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a plan which encompassed plans to kill Lula and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.
The plot was prevented because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the military leaders. His successor was inaugurated without problem on 1 January 2023.

The law enforcement took action and around approximately 1,500 persons were detained.
The judges found that the rioters had been encouraged by him whose strategy, they said, was for the Brazilian military to step in, bring back stability and bring him back to power.
At the moment, the legal team called the decades-long sentence extremely harsh.
He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until 2060 - eight years later after the end of his sentence.
The ex-leader called the trial a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the 2026 national vote.
